Well, we’ve been asking for it, and now we are getting it. Rain. We received over 3 inches (76mm) during last week, and it looks like more rain today. With that little bit of soybeans left to cut, I’d really like to have some sunny, dry days again. It won’t take me but about an hour to get around what’s left to do, but there needs to be some drying off before that can be done. At least those leftover beans are finally ready for the combine. Oh, well… we’ll get ’em eventually.
As October winds down, we are busy with planning for the crops of 2021. The soil testing is now complete, and the recommendations have returned from the lab. A plan is now fully complete, with a specific fertility recommendation for each farm/field location. Some of those fields that got the test results early, have already been applied. Now, the guys at Nutrien are waiting for some dry days to complete the applications.
Fiscal year-end budgeting is occurring, with projections for finances through November. But those projections do not stop there, as cash flow preliminaries are being refined for all of 2021. Recent increases in commodity prices are helping to bring back some optimism to agriculture, which was pretty low just ahead of #harvest 2020. Here, we try to maintain an even temperament… in which our highs don’t get too high, and our lows don’t get too low. We very much try to take the ‘long view’ of the future!
Our Mack Vision is headed off to the repair shop today. I think it’s the clutch that needs some professional attention.
Have a great week.
