Seed arrives

Friday, March 23, 2018

Our DeKalb/Asgrow seed dealer (who is also a good neighbor) started delivering the seed corn today.  We place seed in our old concrete block building… one that was original to the farm when we moved here in February 1958.   That building at one time contained almost all our farm equipment, but now it serves mostly as seasonal seed storage.

John operates the forklift to move the seed boxes from this delivery trailer to our seed storage building.

Yes, the boxes are beginning to fill the space, and there are more boxes to come. It’s made easier since we do not bring in very much of our soybean seed, but pick it up in bulk from our dealer as needed during the planting season.  Each box contains 50 units of seed with 80,000 seeds per unit.  Each box will plant approximately 125 acres.

The project electrician for the grain leg replacement is on-site today to do some preliminary work and planning for the powering of the new elevator and its related unload pit.

It’s cool and cloudy today, with rain in the forecast.

Good luck to our Purdue Boilermakers tonight in their Sweet 16 game vs. Texas Tech.    Have a good weekend, everyone.
